چکیده

Coffee and light refreshments will be provided at the session breaks. Posters should remain in place for all of Monday and Tuesday. Discussion time is scheduled during the meeting. In addition, a limited amount of space for the presentation of posters is possible on Wednesday. The size of poster boardse is 1.5m wide x 1m high. The poster display areas will be in the atrium and meeting rooms near the lecture theatre

Abstaract Background and Aim: Tinnitus is a specific auditory sensitivity in which the patient hears nonexistent sounds. From neurological point of view, in majority of them increment in neural activity has been proposed characterized by increase in spontaneous firing rate in central auditory system. According to a hypothesis, tinnitus is a result of abnormal synaptic plasticity and reduced inh...

A Simulation-Based Study of Dorsal Cochlear Nucleus Pyramidal Cell Firing Patterns

A two-variable integrate and fire model is presented to study the role of transient outward potassium currents in producing temporal aspects of dorsal cochlear nucleus (DCN) pyramidal cells with different profiles namely the chopper, the pauser and the buildup. This conductance based model is a reduced version of KM-LIF model (Meng & Rinzel, 2010) which captures qualitative firing features of a...

AN INTERDISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE ON CURRENT UNDERSTANDING OF THE PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF SUBJECTIVE TINNITUS AND BEST CLINICAL PRACTICES FOR TREATMENT Capstone Project

Subjective tinnitus is commonly experienced, especially by those with hearing loss. It is generally agreed that neural plasticity underlies the pathophysiology of subjective tinnitus. Studies from audiology/hearing research and cognitive neuroscience/neuropsychology are reviewed to illuminate current understanding of the pathophysiology of tinnitus. Research has revealed hyperactivity (increase...

Dorsal cochlear nucleus hyperactivity and tinnitus: are they related?

PURPOSE Eight lines of evidence implicating the dorsal cochlear nucleus (DCN) as a tinnitus contributing site are reviewed. We now expand the presentation of this model, elaborate on its essential details, and provide answers to commonly asked questions regarding its validity. CONCLUSIONS Over the past decade, numerous studies have converged to support the hypothesis that the DCN may be an im...

Hyperactivity in the ventral cochlear nucleus after cochlear trauma.

The emergence of hyperactivity in the form of elevated spontaneous firing rates after cochlear trauma has been well documented in a number of central auditory structures, including the auditory cortex, inferior colliculus, and dorsal subdivision of the cochlear nucleus. This hyperactivity is of interest as a possible neural substrate of tinnitus. Whether the ventral subdivision of the cochlear ...
